Breaking: 5 Abducted Gateway Poly Students, 2 Others Rescued, 5 Suspects Arrested, Abiodun Hails Army, DSS, Police, Others

Five students from Gateway ICT Polytechnic in Saapade, Ogun State, Nigeria, who were abducted earlier this week, have been successfully rescued. The operation also freed two non-students, bringing the total number of rescued victims to seven. The successful recovery occurred in the early hours of Friday following an intelligence-led operation in the Alamala community, near Ayetoro Road Roundabout, the state capital.

One of the victims sustained a gunshot injury during the incident and was immediately evacuated for medical attention. The student has since been stabilised.

The rescue mission was a collaborative effort involving multiple security agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Police, and the Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). Authorities also arrested five suspects in connection with the abductions. One of the rescued victims sustained a gunshot injury during the incident but has since been stabilized and is receiving medical attention.

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun lauded the combined efforts of the DSS, Army, Police, and NSCDC, hailing the rescue as a significant breakthrough in the fight against kidnapping. He reiterated his administration's firm commitment to ensuring that kidnappers and other criminal elements have no safe haven within the state. "Our resolve is very clear. Ogun State will remain hostile to criminality and safe for every law-abiding citizen, resident and investor," the governor declared.

Governor Abiodun highlighted the operation, which included members of the State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps), local vigilantes, and hunters, as a testament to the effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration. He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his administration's dedication to combating banditry, terrorism, and kidnapping nationwide, citing the recent rescue of 308 abducted victims as evidence of growing success in coordinated security operations.
