Breiðablik crushes Romanian opponent 8-1 in Women's Europa League

Icelandic football club Breiðablik delivered a resounding performance, crushing Romania's FK Csíkszereda 8-1 in the first leg of the Women's Europa League first round. The dominant display at Kópavogsvelli stadium puts the Icelandic team firmly in control of the tie, with one foot already in the second round.

The match was effectively decided in the first half, as Breiðablik showcased their attacking prowess. Agla María Albertsdóttir provided the assist for Úlfa Dís Kreye Úlfarsdóttir to score the opening goal in the 6th minute. Just three minutes later, Úlfarsdóttir doubled the lead after capitalizing on a defensive error. Sunna Rún Sigurðardóttir extended the advantage in the 24th minute, followed by Líf Josstdóttir Van Bemmel scoring the fourth goal shortly after.

Kristín Dís Árnadóttir added a fifth goal just before halftime from a corner kick, giving Breiðablik a comfortable 5-0 lead. The second half continued in the same vein, with Breiðablik adding three more goals within minutes of the restart. Sunna Rún Sigurðardóttir completed her hat-trick with two more goals in the 47th and 52nd minutes, while substitute Hrafnhildur Ása Halldórsdóttir also found the back of the net.

FK Csíkszereda managed to score a consolation goal in the 79th minute through Csilla Balasz, but it did little to dampen Breiðablik's celebratory mood. The Icelandic team's overwhelming victory sets them up for a strong performance in the second leg, which will be played away next week.
