Bremen Police Arrest Suspect in Killing of Married Couple Found Injured in Cornfield

Authorities in Bremen, Germany, have apprehended a 22-year-old suspect in connection with the fatal stabbing of a married couple. Special forces located the man with critical injuries in a cornfield in Schwanewede, Lower Saxony, northwest of Bremen. Emergency responders successfully resuscitated him before he was transported to a hospital.

The victims, a 40-year-old man and his 35-year-old wife, were discovered deceased on Friday afternoon in the Vegesack district of Bremen. Police reported finding the husband with fatal stab and slash wounds on the street, while the wife was found in the basement of an apartment building. Investigators are treating the case as a violent crime.

Police had previously issued a warning regarding the 22-year-old suspect, who was known to law enforcement. Earlier in April, he had reportedly fired a weapon, described as a compressed air rifle, prompting police intervention. Although officers apprehended him after a brief pursuit, he was released from psychiatric care due to a lack of diagnosed mental illness or immediate threat to others.
