‘Bride of al-Marg’ sentenced to 5 years for husband's murder

A Cairo court has sentenced Heba, 21, to five years of hard labor for the murder of her husband just five months after their wedding. The case, dubbed the “Bride of al-Marg,” captivated public attention as details of the fatal altercation emerged.

According to the prosecution's case file, the incident stemmed from a verbal argument that escalated into a physical fight. The dispute reportedly began when Heba did not prepare a meal for her husband. During the ensuing struggle, she retrieved a kitchen knife and stabbed him twice, inflicting wounds to his chest and the back of his head, which proved fatal.

The victim's sister testified that she heard cries for help from the couple's apartment and found her brother bleeding on the floor. Neighbors attempted to help, but he died before reaching the hospital.

While she was at her residence in the same building, she heard cries for help and screams coming from the defendant. She added that she immediately rushed to her brother’s apartment to investigate, and upon arrival, she found him lying on the floor covered in blood.

During interrogation, Heba admitted to the stabbing but maintained it was not intentional. She cited extreme exhaustion from her third month of pregnancy as a factor in the argument. She claimed she was holding the knife during the heated exchange and later attempted to assist her husband with his sister's help before he was taken to the hospital.

A forensic report confirmed the stab wounds, with the chest injury severing major blood vessels and leading to fatal blood loss. The court's verdict followed the investigation and testimony presented.
