British Prime Minister Travels to Kyiv to Mark Ukraine's Independence

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham arrived in Ukraine on Monday, August 24, 2026, for his first foreign visit since assuming office in July. The trip aims to commemorate Ukraine's Independence Day and underscore the United Kingdom's unwavering support during the ongoing conflict with Russia.

Burnham is scheduled to co-chair a meeting of the 'Coalition of the Volunteers,' an initiative established by the UK and France to support Ukraine. In a statement released to the media, the Labour leader emphasized the UK's steadfast commitment. "The Ukrainian people must have no doubt: the United Kingdom stands with you today and for as long as it takes," he declared.

Expressing pride in his country's contribution, Burnham stated, "I want the Ukrainian people to hear directly from me that our support will not falter. After all, Ukraine's security is our security." He further asserted that the friendship between the two nations will endure beyond the war initiated by Russia in 2022, promising continued support in both the fight and future reconstruction efforts.

Kelin, who served for over seven years, has not yet been replaced.
