British woman granted $1 million bail after cocaine bust in Jamaica

A British woman arrested at Jamaica's Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) with a significant quantity of cocaine has been granted bail. Bethany Grant, 28, from Birmingham, England, appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday and was granted bail in the sum of $1 million.

Grant faces charges including conspiracy to traffic cocaine, possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine, and taking steps to export cocaine. According to court documents, on July 13, 2026, police found Grant with over six pounds of cocaine, estimated to have a street value of $3 million. The drugs were allegedly hidden within packages of festival dough mix in her suitcase.

During a search, a police constable noticed the dough mix packages felt unusually hard. Upon inspection, a plastic bag containing a white powdery substance with a pungent odor was discovered. A field test reportedly yielded a positive result for cocaine. Grant allegedly told the constable she purchased the mix at a supermarket.

Further searches of her luggage revealed 12 assorted items, including slippers, dough mix, chocolate mix, and coffee mix packets, all containing a substance resembling cocaine. Grant was subsequently arrested. Her attorneys argued she was a suitable candidate for bail, supported by her family in Jamaica. She was granted bail with one surety and is required to report to the Waterford Police Station three times a week and surrender her travel documents.
