Brnabic Receives Draft Venice Commission Opinion on Judiciary Laws

Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic has received a draft opinion from the Venice Commission concerning controversial amendments to the country's judiciary laws. These amendments have drawn significant criticism both domestically and internationally, with opponents arguing they undermine the independence and effectiveness of prosecutors. Brnabic, however, expressed optimism, stating she found the draft opinion to be fair and balanced.

The Venice Commission, a body of legal experts, was consulted on the amendments designed to reform Serbia's judicial system. Brnabic confirmed receipt of the draft on Friday and plans to submit her comments by Tuesday. She anticipates the final opinion from the Venice Commission's expert team within the coming days, with a public release scheduled for June. The Serbian government intends to commence work on the legislative amendments promptly after receiving the final opinion, ensuring ample time for public discourse.
