Brussels urges Meta, TikTok to boost vigilance after Ceuta crisis

Brussels is calling on social media giants Meta and TikTok to step up their vigilance and data verification efforts in the wake of the recent migration crisis in Ceuta. European Commissioner for Technological Sovereignty, Security, and Democracy, Henna Virkkunen, met with representatives from the platforms to address the situation.

The European Commission has been closely monitoring social media, especially with August 15 approaching, a date reportedly circulating online as a potential target for a large-scale attempt to enter the Spanish city of Ceuta. The Commission has noted that channels linked to Russia have amplified the migration crisis since July 30.
