Bucharest Mayor Ciprian Ciucu announced Sunday evening that the city administration will begin analyzing measures to reduce energy consumption starting Monday. The move comes amid the ongoing energy crisis and a national appeal to local authorities.

Ciucu plans to convene a meeting with representatives from municipal institutions and companies that are significant energy users. These include public transport operator STB, heating company Termoenergetica, and the Municipal Public Lighting Company. In a separate political development, Ciucu indicated that his party, PNL, is dissatisfied with the prolonged governmental crisis. The PNL is exploring options for forming a fully empowered executive, ruling out a new alliance with the Social Democratic Party (PSD). "We are not at all satisfied with the situation in which Romania has a government without full powers. We are considering all options. It could be a technocratic government or a minority government, but PNL will no longer form an alliance with the Social Democratic Party," he said.

Regarding a potential technocratic government, Ciucu stressed that the PNL would only accept truly politically independent individuals. "If they are real technocrats, we can discuss. A technocrat must be a recognized professional in their field and not be close to a political party or associated with it through their public activity," he added. He also commented on the relationship with the current mayor, Nicușor Dan, stating that despite recent disagreements, the PNL remains open to dialogue.
