Buckow Residents Still Advised to Boil Drinking Water After Bacteria Detection

Residents of Buckow in the Märkisch-Oderland district of Germany are still being advised to boil their drinking water following the detection of coliform bacteria in the local network. The precautionary measures remain in effect until further notice.

The presence of a small amount of coliform bacteria prompted the advisory. The water network is currently undergoing continuous flushing, a process that will pause on Wednesday before further testing on Thursday. "The results will form the basis for further assessment of the situation and subsequent actions," stated the district authorities.

Authorities recommend boiling drinking water for at least three minutes before consumption or use in food preparation. Bottled water is also advised as an alternative. Special attention is urged for infants, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems, who are considered most vulnerable to potential health effects. The district is investigating the source of the contamination, noting that it could stem from network maintenance, technical issues, or other disruptions to the water supply system.

Coliform bacteria can pose health risks, including gastrointestinal issues. The district also advised ensuring adequate chlorination of water in swimming pools.
