Budapest-Bucharest train stranded in Romania after locomotive failure

Passengers on the international train traveling from Budapest to Bucharest Nord found themselves stranded on Sunday when the locomotive pulling their train malfunctioned between the stations of Caracal and Fărcaşele.

The affected train, identified as IR 12079, was halted due to an accidental failure of its lead locomotive, EA 014. Significantly, this locomotive is still within its warranty period, provided by RELOC Craiova, the company responsible for its modernization. CFR Călători, the Romanian national railway company, confirmed the incident in a statement.

To resolve the situation, CFR Călători dispatched a replacement locomotive to the site. This action was taken to allow the train to continue its journey. The EA 014 locomotive belongs to the EA electric locomotive family, originally produced by Electroputere Craiova under a license from the Swedish company ASEA. Several locomotives in this series have undergone modernization to continue service on passenger routes.

CFR Călători issued an apology to the passengers for the inconvenience and delay caused. The company stated that it is monitoring the situation closely to ensure the safe resumption of train traffic. Passengers were seen looking down the tracks, awaiting the arrival of the replacement locomotive.
