Buenos Aires subway fares rise in September, with some passengers paying more than 2,500 pesos

A subway ride in Buenos Aires will cost 1,753 pesos from Tuesday, Sept. 1, after the city government approved a 4% fare increase. The standard ticket currently costs 1,684 pesos, so the new price will exceed 1,700 pesos for the first time.

The resolution, published in the Official Gazette, also changes the social and student fares and the price of the Premetro. The standard social fare and Premetro ticket will cost 613.55 pesos, while the student fare will be 245.42 pesos. Passengers using an unregistered SUBE card will pay 2,541.10 pesos, and the Premetro fare for an unregistered card will be 975.54 pesos.

The increase follows the monthly adjustment formula for public transport fares. For September, the city used July’s 2.1% consumer price index increase and added two percentage points. The latest adjustment takes the total subway fare increase during 2026 to 45.12%.

Discounts for frequent passengers will remain. Riders making between one and 20 trips in the month will pay the full 1,753 pesos per trip. The fare falls to 1,402.40 pesos for trips 21 through 30, 1,227.10 pesos for trips 31 through 40, and 1,051.80 pesos from the 41st trip onward.

The city will also maintain existing free passes for retirees and pensioners, people with disabilities, and transplant recipients or people waiting for transplants. Free student tickets and social passes for qualifying passengers will continue as well.
