Building Damaged by Adjacent Excavation in Istanbul, Evacuated

Residents of a building in Istanbul's Sultangazi district were forced to evacuate their homes after excavation work on a neighboring construction site caused significant damage to their building's foundation.

The incident occurred in the 50. Yıl Mahallesi neighborhood. According to local reports, residents began hearing unsettling noises around midnight. Fearing for their safety, they promptly evacuated the building. The excavation had reportedly reached 2 meters below the foundation level of the adjacent structure.

Emergency teams were dispatched to the scene following reports of the damage. After an initial assessment, officials decided to evacuate the building as a precautionary measure due to safety concerns. Municipal teams subsequently secured and sealed off the building. Six families were residing in the evacuated structure. An investigation into the incident has been initiated.
