Fire in Erzurum Courthouse Archive; Two Hospitalized

A fire erupted in the archive section of the Erzurum Courthouse on Thursday evening, prompting an emergency response. While firefighters battled the blaze, two individuals, including a staff member and a night security guard, were affected by smoke inhalation and subsequently taken to the hospital. Both are reported to be in stable condition with no serious health issues.

Governor Aydın Baruş reported that the fire started at 6:46 p.m. and was met by fire crews within minutes. He stated that the blaze was confined to approximately 30 square meters of the 200-square-meter archive area. The governor noted the intense smoke produced by burning paper and plastic materials but assured the public that the fire was under control and efforts were underway to ventilate the building. He emphasized that there was no ongoing danger.

The initial response saw the night guard attempting to extinguish the fire with an extinguisher before being overcome by smoke. Firefighters successfully located and tackled the source of the blaze. The incident highlights the risks associated with archive storage, particularly the potential for rapid smoke spread from combustible materials.
