Bulletin warns areas of fire risk

The National Agency for Water and Forests in Morocco has issued an updated bulletin detailing areas highly susceptible to forest fires. The alert, effective from August 1 to August 3, 2026, identifies specific provinces facing extreme, high, and moderate fire risk levels based on scientific data, including forest type, flammability, climate forecasts, and topography.

Provinces designated as facing extreme risk include Al Hoceima, Chefchaouen, Fahs-Anjra, Larache, Tangier-Assilah, Tetouan, M'Diq-Fnideq, Nador, and Taza. These regions require the utmost vigilance due to their heightened vulnerability.

Areas identified with a high risk of forest fires during the same period encompass Ouezzane, Berkane, Driouch, Ifrane, Sefrou, Taounate, Kenitra, Khemisset, Benslimane, Mediouna, Mohammedia, Nouaceur, Essaouira, and Agadir Ida-Outanane. Residents and visitors in these locales are advised to be particularly cautious.

Furthermore, provinces such as Jerada, Oujda-Angad, Taourirt, Guercif, Meknes, El Hajeb, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, Rabat, Salé, Skhirat-Témara, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Khénifra, Settat, El Haouz, and Taroudant have been classified as facing moderate risk. The agency implores the public, particularly those living near or working in forest areas, as well as tourists and visitors, to exercise extreme caution. They are urged to avoid any activities that could spark a fire and to promptly report any signs of smoke or suspicious behavior to local authorities.
