Bundeswehr: Frigate "Sachsen" Returns from NATO Mission

The German frigate "Sachsen" has completed its mission and returned to its homeport in Wilhelmshaven after over six months at sea. Families, friends, and fellow sailors welcomed the warship back to the naval base.

The "Sachsen" was deployed as part of NATO's Standing Maritime Group 1 (SNMG 1), a maritime task force operating in the North and Baltic Seas, as well as the North Atlantic. According to the Navy, the frigate covered approximately 66,600 kilometers during its deployment.

"We were part of SNMG 1 for the past nearly seven months and made a significant contribution to NATO's maritime presence and deterrence against Russia throughout the entire operational area," stated Commander Wolfgang Eckmüller. The frigate's tasks included monitoring and protecting sea lanes and critical maritime infrastructure.

From April to July, the "Sachsen" served as the flagship for SNMG 1. In this role, it acted as the command platform for the British staff leading the task force. During its time at sea, the crew participated in several exercises and, in early July, joined celebrations for the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence in Norfolk and New York.
