Bus driver charged after fatal accident in Cerro Corá

The driver of a bus involved in a fatal collision on Route PY05 in Cerro Corá has been formally charged with negligent homicide. The accident, which occurred Tuesday night, claimed the life of the bus's co-driver and left three passengers with minor injuries.

Rubén Brizuela Rodas, 29, was driving the Nasa Golondrina bus when it violently collided with a tractortrailer. The impact killed his colleague, Wagner Antonio Mateus Da Silva, 43. Prosecutors have initiated legal proceedings against Brizuela Rodas, but due to the nature of the charge, they have requested alternative measures to pre-trial detention, allowing him to remain free during the investigation.

Meanwhile, prosecutors are still considering charges against the driver of the tractortrailer, identified as Pánfilo León Falcon Ocampo, 53. The decision hinges on a forthcoming report examining the conditions under which the large truck was operating. "If we confirm that the truck did not have its rear lights on, he will also be charged," stated prosecutor Mirtha Martínez.

The collision happened on Route PY05, approximately 30 kilometers from Pedro Juan Caballero. The bus struck the rear of the sand-carrying truck. The investigation aims to determine the precise sequence of events and assign responsibility for the tragic outcome.
