Businessman Georgică Cornu to Face Trial for Violating Protection Order

Businessman Georgică Cornu is set to stand trial for allegedly violating a protection order obtained by his former partner, television presenter Marina Almășan. The Bucharest Tribunal has definitively rejected Cornu's appeal against the preliminary chamber proceedings, allowing the case to proceed to the main trial.

Cornu faces charges for more than 20 documented instances of violating the protection order. His legal team had attempted to have the criminal case dismissed during the preliminary chamber phase, but the tribunal's decision means the accusations will now be examined in court. The case stems from the tumultuous end of a 12-year relationship between Cornu and Almășan, which concluded in 2024.

Almășan accused Cornu of persistent contact and monitoring her apartment after their breakup, even claiming he entered her home and left flowers while she was away, prompting her to change her locks. The dispute escalated from public exchanges on social media and in the press to legal action. Almășan sought and was granted a protection order, leading to the current criminal proceedings against Cornu for its alleged breach. Cornu is presumed innocent until a final court ruling.
