“By My Side”: Helene Fischer releases new single

Helene Fischer’s new single, “By My Side,” turns loyalty into a dance-pop schlager refrain: “Day and night, you are by my side. Strong and weak, you stand by my side.”

The song is the second release from the 42-year-old singer’s forthcoming studio album, following “Tonight.” Its lyrics describe two people as “the perfect synergy when the whole world lies in ruins” and call one partner “my torch in the wind.” Synthesizer-heavy production gives the track a blend of dance pop and schlager.

The record company planned to officially present the song in a new music video and at the Golden Hen awards in Leipzig. Fischer’s fans had already heard it during her summer stadium tour across Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands. Nearly 750,000 people attended the 15 concerts.

Fischer performed the song with her partner Thomas, with whom she has two children. Wearing silver glitter outfits, the pair spun above the audience at dizzying heights. The company said clips of the performances had been viewed more than 20 million times on social media. Footage from the Vienna concert became the music video.

Known for elaborate stage productions, Fischer has also worked with Cirque du Soleil. The tour marked her full return after maternity leave, and she is celebrating 20 years on stage this year. Deutsche Post honored the anniversary with a commemorative stamp.

“Tonight,” which became the soundtrack for the men’s football World Cup on Magenta TV, gave Fischer her first number one as a solo artist. According to GfK Entertainment, it topped Germany’s official charts one week after release. She had previously reached number one in late 2023 with a remake of “Atemlos durch die Nacht” alongside rapper Shirin David, but not as a solo act.
