BYD launches new hybrid SUV with over 1100 km range in Argentina

BYD has introduced its new plug-in hybrid SUV, the Seal U DM-i, to the Argentine market. The vehicle is available in a single GS trim and can be found at the brand's official dealerships.

This SUV is equipped with BYD's Super Hybrid DM-i technology, which merges a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with an electric system. The company states this combination provides an electric-only range of 105 kilometers and a total combined range of up to 1105 kilometers, with a fuel efficiency of 5.1 liters per 100 kilometers.

Measuring 4775 mm in length, 1890 mm in width, and 1668 mm in height, with a 2765 mm wheelbase, the Seal U DM-i offers a 552-liter trunk capacity, expandable to 1440 liters with the rear seats folded. The interior seats five occupants and comes in two color schemes: Black, and Basalt Black-Red Hare Brown (the latter paired with the Time Gray exterior color).

Inside, the SUV boasts electric front seats, ventilation, dual-zone automatic climate control, an electric panoramic sunroof, and a dual 15W wireless phone charger. It also features a 10-speaker Infinity premium audio system, a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a Head-Up Display, and voice control via "Hi BYD" and Google Assistant "Hi Google."

In terms of safety, the Seal U DM-i achieved a five-star rating in Euro NCAP tests. Its safety suite includes six airbags, 360° panoramic cameras with a transparent chassis view, and advanced driver-assistance systems. These systems include autonomous emergency braking, intelligent cruise control, front collision warning, lane keeping and centering assist, blind-spot detection, and rear cross-traffic alert and braking.

The vehicle is offered in four exterior colors: Obsidian Black, Snow White, Time Gray, and Smoke Gray. It comes with a 7 kW home charger, a portable charger, and a V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) system for powering external devices. BYD stated that this launch signifies a step in their growth strategy in Argentina, aiming to bring innovative and accessible technologies to the local market.
