Caapucú Prepares Festivities, Parade for 239th Anniversary

The Paraguayan city of Caapucú is gearing up for a vibrant celebration of its 239th anniversary, marking the founding of the municipality with a multi-day event. The festivities, spanning from August 14th to 17th, promise a blend of civic pride, cultural expression, and community engagement.

Central to the celebration is a grand civic, military, and student parade scheduled for Saturday along Ruta PY01. This event will be preceded by a traditional Holy Mass and the raising of the national flag. Following the parade, attendees can enjoy a communal lunch featuring a gastronomic fair and a performance by the Banda Show Caapucú at the newly inaugurated municipal sports center.

Caapucú, historically known as Capilla Tuvá and founded on August 15, 1787, by Spanish governor Pedro Melo de Portugal, holds significant historical value. The city, located in the Paraguarí department, was relocated to its current site around 1816. Its rich past is preserved in attractions like the Cabañas Museum-Oratory, which houses centuries-old artifacts.

The celebration also includes a special event for Children's Day on Sunday and will conclude on Monday evening. Beyond the anniversary events, Caapucú offers tourist appeal with sites like Punta Arena beach on the Tebicuary River and the Yaguarete Cua viewpoint, showcasing its natural beauty alongside its historical heritage.
