Cagliari forward Yael Trepy in critical condition after near-drowning

French footballer Yael Trepy, a 20-year-old forward for Italian Serie A club Cagliari, remains in intensive care after a near-drowning incident in a swimming pool on Sunday afternoon. The young player was reportedly unable to swim when he ended up in the deep end of a villa's pool on the Costa Smeralda in Sardinia.

Eyewitnesses rescued Trepy from the water, but his condition rapidly deteriorated, requiring urgent medical assistance. He was intubated and airlifted to the Santissima Annunziata hospital in Sassari. Doctors reported a significant amount of fluid in his lungs, hindering oxygen exchange, and have placed him in an induced coma for continuous monitoring and treatment.

Trepy, who debuted in Serie A last season and recently scored in a Coppa Italia match, has received support from his club. Cagliari Calcio issued a statement confirming their ongoing communication with the medical facility and Trepy's family, while also requesting respect for the player's privacy.
