Cagliari's Yael Trepy wakes from coma, no neurological deficits after pool incident

Sassari, Italy – Footballer Yael Trepy, a forward for Cagliari, has awakened from an induced coma with no neurological deficits following a near-drowning incident in a swimming pool. The 20-year-old French player was admitted to the Santissima Annunziata Civil Hospital in Sassari, Sardinia, after being found unresponsive in a pool.

According to the latest hospital bulletin released by the club, Trepy's sedation and ventilatory support were progressively reduced, leading to his extubation. Upon waking, he demonstrated full consciousness and receptiveness to the medical team. His respiratory condition is stable, and he currently shows no apparent neurological deficits.

Trepy remains in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for close clinical and respiratory monitoring, particularly due to his recent extubation and a lung condition resulting from water inhalation syndrome. The club expressed its support with a message: "You are strong, Yael. We look forward to seeing you back soon."

The incident occurred while Trepy was on vacation in Porto Cervo, northern Sardinia. For reasons yet to be determined, he ended up in the deep end of a swimming pool and was unable to stay afloat. Emergency services rescued him and intubated him at the scene before he was transported to the hospital.
