Caiado likens Eduardo Bolsonaro to 'Goofy' amid green card controversy

Goiás Governor Ronaldo Caiado has escalated his public criticism of Eduardo Bolsonaro, likening him to a "Goofy of Brazilian politics" in a social media post. The latest jab came after reports surfaced about a green card granted to Bolsonaro and his family by the Trump administration, a move occurring amidst strained Brazil-U.S. relations.

Caiado initiated the exchange by posting a poll on X (formerly Twitter) asking followers to identify a "character who lives in the United States, is clumsy, and always says something foolish when they open their mouth?" The options included Mickey, Goofy, and Donald Duck. He then answered his own poll, identifying the "Goofy of Brazilian politics" as someone who "stumbles in the United States and the fall could cost Brazil dearly, affecting industry, exports, and jobs."

Eduardo Bolsonaro, who has been living in self-imposed exile in the U.S. since February 2025, responded to Caiado's remarks. He criticized Caiado's silence regarding individuals convicted in the "Disney coup" – a term used by Bolsonaro supporters to refer to the alleged coup attempt for which former President Jair Bolsonaro is imprisoned. Bolsonaro also suggested Caiado's silence was a bid to "participate in the cocktails of the STF and the Brasília elite."

The dispute highlights ongoing political tensions within Brazil, with Bolsonaro's actions in the U.S. having previously led to American tariffs against Brazil. Caiado, a pre-candidate for the presidency, appears to be leveraging these issues to differentiate himself in the political landscape.
