Cambodia's 1-5 Loss to Indonesia a Valuable Learning Experience, Says Coach Gyotoku

Cambodia's national football team suffered a significant 1-5 defeat against Indonesia in the AFF Cup 2026, a result coach Koji Gyotoku described as a valuable learning experience. The match took place at Pakansari Stadium in Bogor, Indonesia.

"It's a pity we lost this match, but we gained good experience because Indonesia is a team with quality players," Gyotoku stated during the post-match press conference. Sokmeng Chea scored Cambodia's lone goal in the 48th minute. Indonesia's victory was powered by a hat-trick from debutant Mitchell Baker, with additional goals from Sandy Walsh and Jens Raven.

This loss marks Cambodia's second in the tournament, following an earlier defeat to Singapore. The team is currently at the bottom of Group A with no points. Despite the slim chances of advancing to the semifinals, Gyotoku expressed the team's determination to give their maximum effort in the remaining two games.

Cambodia is scheduled to host Timor Leste on August 3rd and will play an away match against Vietnam to conclude their group stage campaign.
