Cameroon registers 252,830 new voters in 2026

Cameroon’s latest voter-registration drive added 252,830 people to the electoral roll, including 169,225 young voters and 176 people with disabilities. The figures were presented by Elections Cameroon Director-General Erik Essousse in Yaoundé after the campaign ended on Aug. 31.

Men accounted for 150,954 of the new registrations, compared with 101,876 women. The diaspora contributed 234 registrations, including 150 men and 84 women.

Elections Cameroon also recorded 39,681 updates, 803 amendments, 14,362 transfers and 24,516 deletions during the campaign. It distributed 102,894 voter cards between January and the end of August, equal to 11.58% of the 887,910 cards still awaiting distribution at the end of 2025.

The Centre region led the country with 37,595 new voters, followed by the Far North with 34,924 and the Northwest with 32,869. The Littoral region recorded 28,320 registrations, while the Southwest registered 28,112.

The uncleaned national electoral register now lists 8,238,778 voters. Elections Cameroon will next begin the register-cleanup process under Articles 78 and 80 of the Electoral Code. It plans to publish provisional electoral lists by Oct. 20 and the national electoral list by Dec. 30. Meanwhile, teams continue distributing voter cards through neighborhood visits and text messages to cardholders who have not collected them. Essousse urged those whose cards are ready to pick them up at Elecam’s municipal offices.
