Cameroon’s new EU ambassador takes up post in Yaoundé

Veronika Boskovic Pohar has formally begun her assignment as the European Union’s ambassador and head of delegation in Cameroon. She presented copies of her credentials to Felix Mbayu, Cameroon’s minister delegate responsible for cooperation with the Commonwealth, on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2026.

The ceremony provided an opportunity to review cooperation between Cameroon and the European Union and discuss Cameroon’s sociopolitical situation. Boskovic Pohar said she was determined to work with the Cameroonian authorities to achieve the objectives set for her mission.

She succeeds Jean Marc Châtaigner, whose assignment ended in late August. A Slovenian lawyer and career diplomat, Boskovic Pohar was appointed to lead the EU delegation in Cameroon three months ago.

Before taking up the Cameroon post, she served as head of the EU delegation in Afghanistan from Sept. 1, 2024. She has 20 years of experience in security policy, multilateral relations and EU foreign policy, as well as training and experience in crisis management, consular affairs and defense coordination.

From September 2020 to August 2024, she served as ambassador representing the Political and Security Committee at the EU’s permanent representation in Slovenia. She also worked in Slovenia as deputy head of mission at the country’s missions in France and Morocco.
