Cameroon win first WAFCON title after 3-0 victory over Malawi

Cameroon has finally claimed the Women's Africa Cup of Nations title, winning the 2026 final 3-0 against Malawi in Rabat, Morocco. The victory marks a historic moment for the Indomitable Lionesses, who had been runners-up on three previous occasions.

Cameroon delivered a dominant performance in the first half, scoring all their goals before the break. Marie Ngah Manga opened the scoring, followed by a superb strike from Naomi Eto. Ngah Manga then completed her brace, giving Cameroon a commanding lead that Malawi could not overcome.

The triumph ends a long wait for the Cameroonian team, whose most recent final appearance was in 2016. Veteran forward Gabrielle Onguene, who played in that 2016 final, was part of the squad and came off the bench in the second half, making the win particularly memorable after nearly a decade of striving for the trophy.

For Malawi, reaching the final was a significant achievement in itself, marking their first-ever appearance at the WAFCON. Despite their impressive run to the title match, their journey concluded with a defeat against the more experienced Cameroonian side.
