Cameroon wins first Women's Africa Cup of Nations title

Cameroon has emerged as the latest champion of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), securing their maiden continental trophy with a decisive 3-0 victory over Malawi in the 2026 final held in Rabat, Morocco.

The Indomitable Lionesses dominated the match, scoring all three goals in the first half. Marie Ngah Manga was instrumental, netting two goals, while Naomi Eto added another. This triumph marks a significant moment for Cameroon, who had previously finished as runners-up three times.

Cameroon's historic win solidifies the list of WAFCON champions to just four nations since the tournament's inception in 1991. They join Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, and South Africa as the only countries to have lifted the coveted trophy.

Nigeria continues to be the undisputed powerhouse of African women's football, boasting a record 10 WAFCON titles. Equatorial Guinea follows with two titles, and South Africa secured their first WAFCON championship in 2022. Cameroon's 2026 victory adds their name to this elite group, marking a new chapter in their women's football history.
