Can Tho Has No Official Plan to Move Administrative Center to Nga Bay

Can Tho has not approved a plan to move its administrative center to Nga Bay, despite information spreading on social media in recent days. The reports also prompted unverified comments and speculation about investment opportunities.

On September 6, the Can Tho Construction Department said no official policy or plan had been approved by the competent authorities to relocate the center. The information circulating online came from consultants’ suggestions during research into spatial-organization options for the draft Can Tho master plan through 2050, with a vision to 2075.

The plan is the first general master plan prepared for the entire city after administrative units were reorganized. The dossier is currently undergoing public consultation, which runs from August 27 to September 16, 2026.

The department said the location of the administrative center would have long-term effects on urban planning, transport, technical infrastructure, public access and the operation of the administrative apparatus. It said Can Tho would assess the issue comprehensively, scientifically and cautiously as part of the master-plan process.

The city’s authorities also pledged to make the process transparent, provide information and explanations during the consultation period, and continue reviewing public feedback after the dossier is completed.
