Can Tho medical university valedictorian receives full-tuition scholarship

Võ Phạm Minh Tài began the 2026-2027 academic year with the university’s top entrance score and a full scholarship worth 71 million Vietnamese dong. The graduate of Chau Van Liem High School in Can Tho scored 29.54 points and became valedictorian of Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy’s medicine program and the university overall.

The university recognized 14 newly admitted valedictorians during its opening ceremony on Sept. 5. The 13 valedictorians representing other programs received awards of between 5 million and 10 million dong each.

The university said it welcomed 2,500 freshmen, along with more than 3,000 postgraduate students. Its total enrollment will remain above 11,600 students this academic year, while several training programs will be updated and new fields introduced.

The year’s theme is “Training innovation, accelerating digital transformation, raising international integration and pursuing sustainable development.” Rector Nguyen Minh Phuong said the university would speed up digital transformation to improve efficiency and transparency in teaching and learning. It is also advancing a plan to establish an innovation center focused on research, entrepreneurship, pharmaceutical production and laboratory quality testing.

The university is using a group of facilities expected to be transferred from surplus state offices in former Hau Giang province for the proposed center. It is also completing a plan to merge Hau Giang General Hospital into the university and submitting a proposal to establish a Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy campus in An Giang.

Addressing the new students, Nguyen urged them to develop competence, responsibility and compassion as future healthcare workers. He also called on them to maintain their health, discipline and sense of service while preparing to support community healthcare.
