Can Tho: No longer requiring residents to return home for administrative procedures

Can Tho City is actively encouraging its residents to utilize administrative procedures that are not dependent on their place of residence. This initiative aims to streamline processes and make public services more accessible.

The city has approved a total of 2,191 administrative procedures that can be completed without regard to geographical boundaries. This includes 1,734 provincial-level procedures and 457 at the commune level, representing a 100% implementation rate of approved procedures. Despite this comprehensive offering, the number of applications submitted through this method has been surprisingly low, with only approximately 370 cases recorded since the beginning of the year, accounting for a mere 0.14% of all applications city-wide.

Several factors contribute to this low adoption rate. Many citizens, particularly older individuals, remain accustomed to submitting applications in person at their local offices. Additionally, limited access to information technology among some segments of the population hinders their ability to engage with online or remote procedural options.

To address this, Chairman Truong Canh Tuyen has directed all relevant agencies and local authorities to treat the promotion of these flexible administrative procedures as a key priority. He stressed the importance of providing maximum convenience for citizens and businesses. Furthermore, he mandated that public service centers at all levels proactively receive, guide, and support individuals and enterprises in completing their procedures. Crucially, officials are strictly forbidden from rejecting applications within their jurisdiction or redirecting citizens back to their place of residence for completion.
