Canada has canceled the joint inauguration ceremony for the Gordie Howe International Bridge, which connects Detroit and Windsor, Ontario. A spokesperson for Canada's Minister of Infrastructure stated that proceeding with a celebratory event would be inappropriate given the U.S. threats of trade measures. Despite the cancellation, the Canadian government remains committed to the bridge's official opening on July 27. The White House responded that Trump's renegotiation of the bridge deal was "incredible for the United States" and that he would continue to negotiate good deals for American workers. The 2.4-kilometer bridge, named after hockey legend Gordie Howe, spans the Detroit River. The inauguration had previously been postponed from June 12 due to "pending matters."
