Canada is bracing for a prolonged trade dispute with the United States, with officials expecting the conflict to last more than two years. Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew indicated that discussions with Prime Minister Mark Carney focused on preparing for a scenario extending beyond the current U.S. presidential term. This strategic planning aims to ensure Canadian economic programs bridge any potential disruption. The trade tensions have intensified following the collapse of trade talks between Washington and Ottawa last week. In response, the U.S. imposed 50 percent tariffs on approximately $20 billion worth of Canadian goods over the weekend. Kinew expressed a sentiment of preparedness, suggesting that Americans will eventually recognize the burden these policies place on their cost of living. He previously stated, "He has two more years in office. We should be prepared to deal with him for two years, and then hopefully reason returns to America."
