Canelones mourns death of Departmental Board President Nathali Muniz

Nathali Muniz, the recently installed president of the Departmental Board of Canelones, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. Her death comes just ten days after she assumed the leadership role for the 2026-2027 term.

The Intendancy of Canelones issued a statement expressing condolences to her family and colleagues, stating, "May her commitment to public service and her dedication to the department remain as a valuable legacy. Rest in peace." The local government highlighted Muniz's dedication to public service and her commitment to the department.

Muniz, originally from San Ramón, was a teacher by profession and an active member of the Movement of Popular Participation (MPP). She was recognized for her dedication and hard work. The Intendancy of Canelones noted that funeral services and a final farewell would take place at the Santa Rosa Funeral Home in San Ramón on Wednesday, July 22, from 08:00 to 13:00 hours.

Reports indicate that Muniz had been battling cancer for several years. The Canelones Board also expressed its sorrow over her passing on social media. During her inauguration, Canelones Intendant Francisco Legnani described her as "a comrade and a hardworking, thoughtful woman who overcomes adversity."
