Canoeing brings two golds to Venezuela at Central American Games

Venezuela's canoeing team delivered a strong performance on the penultimate day of the Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo 2026, clinching two gold medals and contributing significantly to the nation's medal count.

Daniel Román was a standout athlete, securing the top spot on the podium in the men's K1 200-meter race. He later added another gold medal to his tally, teaming up with Ulises González, Cristian Canache, and Ray Acuña in the men's K4 500-meter event.

In addition to the gold medals, Venezuela also earned silver in canoeing. Ray Acuña finished second in the men's 1,000-meter race, while Yocelin Canache secured a silver medal in the women's K1 200-meter event.

As the games approached their conclusion on Saturday, Venezuela maintained its fourth position in the overall medal standings. The nation had accumulated 37 gold, 55 silver, and 92 bronze medals, totaling 184 by the morning of August 7. Mexico led the standings, followed by Colombia and Cuba.
