Venezuela conquered four gold medals and remains fourth in the Central American and Caribbean Games

The Venezuelan delegation experienced a highly successful day at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo on August 6, clinching four gold medals, one silver, and one bronze. These victories were distributed across the disciplines of weightlifting, canoe sprint, and sport shooting, significantly bolstering Venezuela's standing in the competition.

Génesis Rodríguez was a standout performer in weightlifting, achieving a golden double. She demonstrated exceptional technical skill to win the snatch portion by lifting 95 kilograms and then solidified her dominance in the clean & jerk, hoisting 117 kg. Her combined Olympic total of 212 kg secured her top honors in her category.

In canoe sprint, the Venezuelan duo of Ray Acuña and Cristian Canache claimed their first gold medal on Dominican soil. They led the K2 500m race from start to finish at the Presa de Rincón aquatic center, finishing with a time of 1:37.03. This victory avenged a silver medal won at the San Salvador 2023 games. The canoe sprint success continued with Yocelin and Cristian Canache earning a silver medal in the mixed K2 500m, and Yocelin adding a bronze in the K1 500m.

Sport shooting also contributed to Venezuela's medal haul. The team, comprising Olympian Douglas Gómez Salazar, Oduber Medina, and Douglas Gómez de Freitas, secured the discipline's second gold medal in the 25-meter rapid fire pistol team event. They built a decisive lead in the early rounds, ultimately accumulating 1,673 points to secure the top spot on the podium, ahead of Cuba and Mexico.
