Captain Salvages Large Drifting Tarp in Penghu Sea to Prevent Ship Damage

A large plastic tarp, measuring approximately 30 meters in length, was discovered drifting in the waters off Baisha, Penghu, presenting a significant navigational hazard. The tarp posed a serious threat to the propellers of passing boats, potentially causing engine failure and endangering maritime safety.

Captain Ou Chih-lung, who operates a recreational fishing business, spotted the drifting debris while near the Yuanbei sea area. Recognizing the danger, he immediately mobilized his crew to retrieve the tarp. The heavy, waterlogged material required considerable effort from two strong men to haul aboard his vessel.

This act of environmental stewardship has been widely praised by the local Penghu community, especially after the rescue was live-streamed. Captain Ou plans to repurpose the salvaged tarp, potentially using it to cover vegetation or for other practical uses. This initiative not only removes a dangerous obstruction from the sea but also gives the discarded material a new life, transforming a potential hazard into a valuable resource.
