Typhoon 'White Dolphin' rapidly strengthens, may head towards Japan

Taiwan's Central Weather Administration is closely monitoring Typhoon "White Dolphin," which formed earlier today and is projected to rapidly intensify into a super typhoon within the next three days. While the current forecast indicates the storm is unlikely to directly impact Taiwan, it may track towards Japan.

Forecasters predict that moisture from a southern cloud system will bring increased chances of afternoon thunderstorms to Taiwan on Tuesday and Wednesday. Localized heavy rain is also possible in mountainous areas. The agency noted that current temperatures are hovering between 32 and 35 degrees Celsius, with some regions potentially experiencing highs above 36 degrees.

The 'White Dolphin' typhoon formed today and is very far away. According to the current forecast path, it will not affect Taiwan, but it may move towards Japan.

Meteorologist Cheng Chieh-jen stated that while "White Dolphin" is currently far from Taiwan, some models suggest a potential trajectory towards Japan in early to mid-August. However, he cautioned that the storm's path remains highly variable. The typhoon is expected to strengthen to a moderate typhoon within one to two days and a super typhoon within two to three days.

As of 2 PM today, "White Dolphin" was located approximately 5,940 kilometers east of Taipei, moving west-northwest at speeds of 25 to 18 kilometers per hour. Its maximum sustained winds are estimated at 18 meters per second, equivalent to an 8-grade wind. The storm's current 7-grade wind radius extends 80 kilometers.
