Caputo predicts 18 'best months' for Argentina's economy, dismisses racism claims

Argentine Minister of Economy Luis Caputo has projected a period of significant economic improvement, forecasting the "18 best months" of the current administration. Caputo defended the government's economic strategy, asserting that it tackles problems at their root by addressing the nation's tendency to spend more than it earns. He contrasted this approach with previous administrations, which he claimed left "the worst inheritance in history" and focused on superficial issues like debt or the dollar while maintaining deficits.

Caputo specifically addressed criticisms leveled against Argentina after its loss to Spain in the 2026 World Cup final, including accusations of racism and discrimination. He dismissed these claims as "comical" and suggested they might be part of an organized effort against Argentines, potentially orchestrated by the left. "Argentina is one of the least racist countries; foreigners who live here know it," Caputo stated, emphasizing the "warmth" of Argentines that visitors experience.

The minister also criticized international artists, such as Javier Bardem and Rosalía, for their comments about the country, deeming their remarks "irresponsible and not serious." He questioned whether their statements were part of a deliberate campaign against Argentina.

Regarding the economy, Caputo believes the public underestimates the success of the current government's inflation reduction efforts. He highlighted the current administration's commitment to resolving the country's fiscal issues without infringing on private property, a departure from past practices that he argued led to crises and eroded public trust. Caputo described this as a "180-degree change," asserting that Argentina had never before implemented such a strategy.
