Car Drives into Protest Crowd in Serbia; Driver Allegedly Intentionally Targeted Injured

An incident at a student support protest in Bačka Palanka saw a car drive into a crowd of citizens, with a local councilor alleging the driver intentionally accelerated and swerved in an attempt to harm as many people as possible.

Dragan Petrović, a Democratic Party councilor, stated that the man sped up before reaching the crowd and drove in a zig-zag pattern. Petrović expressed disbelief that the protesters managed to stop the driver, describing the crowd's reaction as revolted. He added that this was not the first time this individual had caused trouble at student rallies, citing a similar attempt the previous week where police allegedly only recorded the vehicle's license plate without further action.

The man accelerated the car before reaching the column of citizens, he drove zig-zag, probably with the intention of injuring as many people as possible. It is incredible that we managed to stop him.

According to eyewitness accounts, two protesters suffered minor injuries and received medical attention. Petrović reported speaking to one injured individual who described significant pain in his legs. The other injured person was reportedly taken to the emergency center with severe injuries to his feet.

Petrović claimed this was the fourth incident involving the same driver, emphasizing that the individual repeatedly engages in violence without apparent consequences. He stated that protesters refused to move until the police intervened, and that the police deliberated on their course of action. While there is information that the driver was detained, Petrović noted a lack of information regarding subsequent proceedings.
