Carapaz and Narváez to Lead Ecuador at Cycling World Championships

Ecuador's top cyclists, Richard Carapaz and Jhonatan Narváez, are set to headline the nation's participation at the 2026 UCI Road World Championships in Montreal, Canada. The event is scheduled from September 20 to 27, 2026.

Juan Andrade, president of the Ecuadorian Cycling Federation (FEC), confirmed the lineup during the launch of the Vuelta a Ecuador on August 18, 2026. He stated that all Ecuadorian cyclists competing at the World Tour level are expected to attend, with the exception of Martín López, who requested to withdraw due to team obligations. Confirmed participants include Carapaz and Alexander Cepeda (EF Education EasyPost), Narváez (UAE Emirates), and Jefferson Cepeda (Movistar Team).

Jhonatan Narváez spoke about his upcoming participation, noting that the World Championships are a key focus as his season nears its end in mid-October. Beyond this event, Narváez is already looking ahead to the Olympic Games, aiming to accumulate enough points with his compatriots to secure three spots for Ecuador in the cycling competition.

Richard Carapaz, considered Ecuador's premier cyclist, will compete in the Vuelta a España, the final Grand Tour of the year, before heading to the World Championships. Carapaz had a strong showing in the 2026 Tour de France, finishing eighth overall, earning the most combative rider award, and winning the mountains classification. He also achieved strong results earlier in the season, placing second in the Tour de Suisse and the Clásica de San Sebastián.
