Carapaz wins Dutch criterium the day after Tour de France

Ecuadorian cyclist Richard Carapaz claimed victory at the "Tour de France aftermath" criterium held in the Dutch town of Boxmeer, just one day after the conclusion of the French Grand Tour. Carapaz, who had a strong showing in the Tour de France, winning two stages and the mountains classification, as well as being named 'super-combatif,' found the criterium race to be "tough" after completing the 80-kilometer course.

Thymen Arensman of the Netherlands, last year's winner, finished second and admitted that while he wanted to defend his title, Carapaz was simply the stronger rider, echoing sentiments from the Tour de France. "Just like in the Tour, Richie was a bit better," Arensman stated.

Belgian rider Jasper Philipsen, who secured third place, cited fatigue as a factor in his performance. "I didn't have the legs at their best," he reportedly said, according to the media outlet 'De Gelderlander.' This year marked the 50th edition of the professional race, with organizers expressing pride in the high caliber of participants.
