Tabilo advances at Washington Open; Venus Williams wins in doubles

Alejandro Tabilo of Chile began his campaign at the Washington Open with a victory, overcoming Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands in a three-set match. Tabilo, currently ranked 30th in the ATP rankings, won 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-4 in a contest lasting 2 hours and 22 minutes.

He will face either American Frances Tiafoe or Frenchman Terence Atmane in the second round. Meanwhile, Venus Williams, partnering with Russia's Diana Schneider, also started strong in the doubles draw, defeating Quinn Gleason and Ulrikke Eikeri of the United States 6-3, 6-4. This marks a successful return to the venue where she rejoined the circuit a year ago.

Despite her doubles success, including a quarterfinal appearance at the US Open, Williams has not won a singles match since her return to Washington twelve months prior. She is scheduled to play her singles match against Anastasia Potapova of Austria on Tuesday. In other matches, Spanish player Rafa Jódar was eliminated in the doubles tournament, partnering with Brandon Nakashima of the United States, losing 6-4, 6-4 to Austin Krajicek and Nikola Mektic. Jódar will compete in singles against Arthur Fils on Tuesday.
