Carlos Alcaraz Withdraws from Cincinnati Tournament Due to Injury

World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Cincinnati, dealing a blow to fans hoping to see the young Spanish star return to the court. Alcaraz, 23, has not competed professionally since April due to a wrist injury, and his planned comeback at the Cincinnati event will be postponed.

The tournament in Ohio was intended as a crucial tune-up for the US Open, the final Grand Slam of the year, which begins on August 30 in New York. Alcaraz, a seven-time Grand Slam champion, was forced to abandon the Barcelona tournament in the second round in April and has been unable to play since. His absence meant he could not defend his title at the French Open and also missed Wimbledon.

Recent weeks had offered glimpses of Alcaraz's potential return, with videos of his training sessions circulating online. However, organizers of the Cincinnati Masters 1000 confirmed that the injury has necessitated a further delay. "We know he is doing everything he can to return to tournaments as soon as possible. We wish Carlos success in his recovery and look forward to welcoming him to Cincinnati in the future," said tournament director Bob Moran.

Alcaraz is also skipping the Montreal tournament (August 1-13), indicating a cautious approach to his recovery process. Despite these setbacks, Alcaraz recently moved up one spot in the world rankings to second place, narrowly ahead of Alexander Zverev. Meanwhile, 19-year-old Rafael Jodar climbed nine places to a career-high 15th.
