Carnival organizers aim to project Santa Cruz celebration globally

The Comparsa Tremendazos, with nearly three decades of history since 1999, has launched its "Coronadores 2027" project with a clear mission: to project the Santa Cruz Carnival onto the global stage. This initiative is rooted in the conviction that the Carnival is a shared heritage, and its future depends on collective effort.

The project outlines a series of actions designed to fortify the Carnival's historical memory. It aims to honor its traditional protagonists and creators, encourage broader participation from various community segments, and generate new avenues for Santa Cruz's vibrant culture to gain recognition and appreciation both within Bolivia and internationally.

"Coronadores 2027" transcends the idea of a single comparsa managing the event. Instead, it proposes an open dialogue about the kind of Carnival Santa Cruz envisions for the future. This approach acknowledges those who have preserved its traditions across generations while actively seeking new voices to ensure the Carnival continues to evolve without losing its unique essence.

Alejandro Sanguino, president of the Tremendazos, stated, "We believe the Carnival does not belong to one comparsa, but to Santa Cruz. It lives in its traditions, its neighborhoods, its artists, its artisans, and above all, in the people who keep it alive. We want to take on the challenge of working with all of them to preserve our memory, celebrate who we are, and find new ways to show the world the richness of our Carnival."

Under the banner "Mi carnaval patrimonial" (My Heritage Carnival), the Tremendazos aim to treat the role of coronadores as a significant responsibility. Their goal is to place Santa Cruz at the center of the celebration, working to ensure its Carnival is increasingly recognized as a living, authentic cultural expression capable of transcending borders.
