Carol Davila University achieves historic performance in global scientific research ranking

The University of Medicine and Pharmacy Carol Davila in Bucharest has strengthened its standing in Romania after a major rise in the 2026 Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers, known as the NTU Ranking.

The university placed 261st worldwide in medicine, making it the only Romanian university classified in that field. It ranked 597th overall and took first place nationally among the four Romanian universities included in this year’s ranking.

Carol Davila rose 91 places in the global university table compared with the previous edition. Its position in the medicine ranking improved by seven places.

Rector Viorel Jinga said the result confirmed the value and maturity of the university’s academic community and its strategy for developing research and academic excellence. He described the ranking as both a validation of current performance and a responsibility to strengthen the university’s position in European and international medicine.

National Taiwan University has produced the ranking annually since 2012. It evaluates research performance through bibliometric indicators, including the number of published articles, citations and the share of papers published in high-impact journals over an 11-year period. The ranking is also among those used in Romania’s official National University Meta-ranking.
