Carreño starts Estoril tournament with a dominant win

Spain's Pablo Carreño launched his campaign at the Estoril tournament with a commanding performance, defeating Lithuania's Vilius Gaubas in the first round.

Carreño, the tournament's eighth seed and a former champion in Estoril in 2017, showed no mercy on the clay court. He dominated the first set, breaking Gaubas's serve four times to win it convincingly, 6-1. The second set was more closely contested, but Carreño managed to secure a crucial break of serve to clinch the set 6-3, securing the match in just over an hour and twenty minutes.

This victory marks a solid start for Carreño, whose best result this season was winning the challenger tournament in Murcia. He will now advance to the second round, where he is scheduled to play against France's Luca van Assche. Van Assche advanced to this stage after defeating Portugal's Frederico Silva in a three-set match.

In another notable result, Peru's Gonzalo Bueno also progressed to the round of 16. The world number 180 secured his spot by defeating Portugal's Tiago Pereira in a tight three-set match, 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (5). Bueno is set to face the winner of the match between Botic van de Zandschulp of the Netherlands and Jaime Faria of Portugal.
