Casablanca governor announces new sanitation measures

Mohamed Mhidia, governor of the Casablanca-Settat region, has issued directives to establish regional committees tasked with overseeing sanitation companies. These committees will monitor waste collection, street sweeping, and other field operations.

Mhidia emphasized the need for regular performance reports during a meeting with stakeholders from the Ain Sebaa-Hay Mohammadi and Sidi Bernoussi districts. He stressed that these committees will track daily interventions, identify shortcomings, and propose improvements to enhance service quality.

The governor expressed visible frustration with the current situation, where numerous neighborhoods have become dumping grounds following a change in management and a new contract. He called for immediate action to restore the city's previous cleanliness standards, highlighting the direct link between sanitation, quality of life, public health, and the environment.

Additionally, Mhidia addressed the deteriorating condition of the current truck fleet, which requires technical repairs. He urged for the swift repair of non-operational vehicles and the implementation of a permanent maintenance program to ensure uninterrupted waste collection services across all affected districts.
