Cat Caught Smuggling Drugs into Russian Prison

Prison staff in Russia's Nizhny Novgorod region thwarted an unusual drug smuggling attempt involving a cat. The feline was apprehended on Tuesday as it approached Correctional Colony No. 17, carrying contraband intended for inmates.

According to the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN), the cat was outfitted with two homemade fabric collars. These collars concealed illegal substances destined for prisoners within the facility. The unusual adornments quickly drew the attention of the correctional officers, who intercepted the animal before it could enter the prison grounds.

A dog handler with a specially trained canine unit was called to the scene. The dog confirmed that the collars contained narcotics. Following the discovery, the cat was examined and released unharmed, as confirmed by FSIN representatives.

Russian authorities have launched an investigation to identify the individuals responsible for organizing this unconventional drug smuggling operation into the correctional facility. The incident highlights the creative, albeit illicit, methods employed to introduce contraband into prisons.
